Steven Russell took over the role of Musical Director in September 2002 . The choir appreciates Steven's indefatigable energy and drive in leading the choir, his enthusiasm, professionalism and his unique brand of humour which make rehearsals enjoyable and productive.
Steven has a particular love of French Baroque and contemporary music.
Under his direction, the choir has favourites
like Vivaldi's Gloria, Duruflé's Requiem
and music by Karl Jenkins but also less
frequently performed works, such as
Händel's Ode for the Birthday of
Queen Anne and Purcell's Love's
Goddess Sure. He promotes the
choir's collaboration with professional
musicians and soloists.
A recent performance of a baroque
concert included the period orchestra 'The Amicable and Musical Society' and the internationally
renowned soloists Timothy Travers Brown, William Towers and Colin Campbell. In June 2006 he directed Monteverdi's Vespers in Coventry Cathedral.
