What an incredible evening!
Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana' preceded by Howard Goodall's 'Eternal Light'. One could almost say from the sublime to the ridiculous!
The Sublime.....
Goodall's requiem was written as a requiem for the living. It is a haunting collection of medieval choral church music woven into a simple, unpretentious and moving work.

Lots more information ....

The Ridiculous ....?
Well perhaps not quite ridiculous but this choral piece, a cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1935 and 1936’ is based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection Carmina Burana.
A wide range of subject matter is covered in this not so serious work, many as familiar today as in the 13th century. The erratic nature of fate and wealth and life's short span, are explored in the celebration of Spring, the pleasures and dangers of drinking, greed, gambling and lust....
...and 'boy' did we enjoy the experience of singing about them!
