Christmas 2007

No! we are not loosing our marbles - but here we are nearly at Easter 2008 so we thought perhaps we should at last provide our Web Site visitors with a report of our last Christmas Concert.

Pergolesi's Magnificat was the lively opening to our Christmas Concert on December 15th. Our venue was Warwick Road UR Church and the Choir were under the direction of Steven, and also Matthew Sandy, our Student Conductor.

During rehearsals, singers in the rear rows realised they could not see either of the conductors (although niether of them can be said to be small) because of the levels of the stage and podium, so for the first time, members of the audience were treated to the sight of both conductors appearing and re-appearing both on the ground floor for introductions and on the balcony for conducting of different pieces. We think most Choir members kept up with these changes and we suspect the audience also!

As always, our own soloists were fantastic; Nikki Bawcutt, Matthew Sandy, Margaret Parker and Wynne Mitchell singing from the balcony in 'ln Dulci Jubilo", and excerpts from 'Messiah', and Wendy Whyte and Nikki Bawcutt with "Jesus Treasure' - an interesting echo effect here- and ' Ballulalow' . Although the concert date clashed with 'Carols for All' at the Cathedral but were pleasantly surprised with the size of our loyal audience. This year we have avoided this clash!

Choir items were well mixed with carols for the audience to sing along with, and feedback from our guests was very favourable. Our added value after the concert included a glass of wine and a home made mince pie.
